Location
Oceanside pier, Oceanside CaliforniaTime
This was one of the best sunsets I have seen. It was the lowest tide of the year and the tide was way out. The reflections in the wet sand were amazing.Lighting
The sunset lighting cast marvelous reflections on the wet sand.Equipment
I used a Canon 7D camera with a Sigma 10-20mm wide angle lens, a tripod and remote shutter release.Inspiration
I was inspired by the great clouds and the lowest tide I had ever seen. The sunset was making great reflections in the sand when a surfer came and squatted down in front of me to watch the sunset. No waves to surf as the tide was so far out.Editing
Yes, I processed this with contrast accented in Photoshop, but not much.In my camera bag
A Canon 7D, Sigma 10-20mm lens, Canon 24-105mmL lens, neutral density filters, a 75-300mm Tamron lens, and a Canon 50mm lensFeedback
Oceanside pier makes a great backdrop for sunset photos. It's one of my favorite locations. Check the tide tables and find a low tide that happens at sunset or sunrise and shoot at that time to catch the best reflections in the wet sand. Set your camera at f/22 and ISO100 and use an automatic shutter release and a tripod for best results.
