Location
This photo was taken at the old dock from my family cottage located in muskoka. Just a few meters down from the actual cottage.Time
Afternoon.Lighting
I was positioned in a shady spot as I watched the shadows from the trees cast onto the water and dock. The sun directed one spot where it revealed the bottom, which added an nice touch.Equipment
I used my primary camera, Nikon D800 with a Nikon 16-35 mm wide angle lens. I fitted a Hoya circular polarizer filter as well as a UV filter.Inspiration
I always gazed at the dock and the boat as I would eat dinner, or do lawn work. I have always been inspired by it and I felt that it had a rustic beauty that I believe most people would enjoy. I spent many years fishing from this dock when it was in better shape. I caught my first and only pike here. Now that it is old and torn, I find myself thinking of my child hood. I never go there anymore due to family politics, but I believe that anyone who has experienced a location like this would be inspired and uplifted when they see it. This picture is engraved in my mind and I will never forget it.Editing
Simple light room adjustments to color and brightness. In my camera bag
I keep my D800, Nikon 16-55mm wide angle, 24-70mm Sigma, 50mm prime Nikon, 65mm prime Macro Nikon, 85mm prime Nikon, 70-300 Nikon zoom. I also keep an sb-70 flash, sekonic light meter, tripod, photo greay card, wired trigger, cam ranger, ipad, iphone, uv filter, circular polarizer filter, and a 64X ND filter.Feedback
Its important to get a good angle for this type of shot, keep the rule of thirds in mind. Look for rustic things, they can really produce a lot of personality. Most importantly, have fun! If you are not having fun, you will struggle to get good images.
