I took the picture of "Window Rock in the Navajo Reservation - ArizonaTime
It was around 10 o'clock in the morning, my first stop of my planned trip in the Navajo Reservation & Monument Valley.Lighting
That morning the light was amazing...blue sky, no clouds and a lovely sun in early April. I must say that the weather was great for the entire trip.....maybe some clouds could have been welcome to add some more drama to the sky, well next time!Equipment
I used my favorite camera, the Nikon D3 S and the Zoom 24-70mm f 2,8 with a polarizer filter. As tripod the Manfrotto 055CX Pro4 together with an Acratech Headball.Inspiration
"Window Rock" can inspire any photographer, especially as the very first stop in a trip all over the Navajo Reservation. Maybe not as famous as the Monument Valley, but I think is very scenic, if I knew it in advance how beautiful it is, I was going to spend more time for taking more pictures from different angles and for sure sunrise and sunset would add a magic soft warm light.Editing
I'm normally happy with the RAW files. I use PS just to boost little bit of contrast and enhance the colors. Controlling the light in a photo "on the field", is something that I still love to do. I know would be more easy doing it at home on your computer, but I'm a photographer, not a graphic designer. In my camera bag
It depend by the trip that I planned. I luckily own several cameras and lenses, so for me is exciting as well the preparation of my bags, before the trip itself, like a young student preparing his books for the next day lesson. A common bag of mine will have the Nikon D3 S with the Nikon 70-200mm F2, 8 VRII & The Nikon D810 with the 24-70mm f2,8. I normally carry a set of filters (Polarizer, UV & ND), Tripod with a solid headball. I learned to carry always extra batteries, especially when you're shooting in the cold weather.Feedback
As I wrote above, Navajo Reservation & Monument Valley are two great places to get inspirations. A beginner could really learn a lot from a 2/4 days trip in those areas, experimenting will be the best thing to do....close or wide aperture, long exposures, macro and so on. If you are an expert or advanced photographer, well one of the best places for Star Trails and Night Photography is located, in my opinion, in the Monument Valley.
