Location
This image was taken at Currumbin Rock near the Gold Coast in Queensland Australia.Time
This was Mid afternoon as the sun was lowering to the left of shot casting a darker tone on the incoming rain/storm clouds.Lighting
Lightning can and is one of the most dangerous topics or subjects to photograph. They are not simply contained in the clouds and can ark outwards kilometers ahead or behind of a storm system striking in clear blue sky. So much respect aswell as knowledge of the radar and storm tracking is important to keep yourself save but also keep yourself in position.Equipment
For this image I used a Nikon D7100 with the Tamron 10-24mm wide angle f/4.5 lens. I simply used a standard cheap tripod and a plastic bag to keep the top of camera dry.Inspiration
I simply live to capture storms. But on this day I realized I really love ocean and beach photography. For me this was a lucky moment as the clouds quickly developed and as surfers went into the water I found a special shot was possible.Editing
I added a bit of contrast as the light to the left was a bit brighte than expected and I raised the highlights to bring the rock detail out more.In my camera bag
I now carry a Nikon D750 and D7100. I carry a Tamron 15-30mm for the full frame aswell as the Nikkor 24-85mm. And for the crop sensor I carry a Tamron 10-24mm Wide angle aswell as a Tamron 18-200m and Nikkor 55-300mm. I also carry a Patchmaster lightning trigger, A nikon wireless remote and cleaning gear.Feedback
Be patient and ready. You may sit for 5 minutes or you may sit for 50 minutes. If you can see an image then don't be afraid to wait it out and make it a reality. Also carry a second camera to capture anything going on around you. It may be wildlife or action surf shot's. Not a single minute should be wasted with so much happening around you. But mostly just enjoy yourself and have fun.
