I can't believe that in the 25 years I've been walking through the trails that I have NEVER seen this bird before. Just by luck, he was sitting on an old log very close to the shore. Unfortunately it was a dark day so this is the best photo I could take but I'm still thrilled and think I should go out and get a lotto ticket

At first I thought he was a baby owl who had just left the nest . Pygmy owls' grow to be 6 inches tall.
