Fabulous work. I love to photograph old vehicles like this, the hardest part is finding them!!

Thanks! I know what you mean. It's kind of like an easter egg hunt.

Behind The Lens

Location
This old truck sat for years in a lot by an old barn just outside Cave Junction, Oregon. I would pass it every day on my way into town. I kept thinking I should stop and shoot it but always seemed to be on my way somewhere else. When I finally did stop, as fate would have it, I didn't have my Canon with me. Fortunately, my wife had left her camera in the car so I grabbed it and my tripod and set up. I shot from several different angles so I'd have variety to choose from. I took three bracketed exposures of each shot and processed them in Photomatix Pro to get the final result.
Time
I shot this at about 2:30 pm PST
Lighting
The time of day wasn't the best but fortunately it was one of those high contrast overcast days so I got away with it.
Equipment
As I said before, I didn't have my camera with me so I used my wife's FinePix S100 and my tripod.
Inspiration
This was back in '08 and I was just starting to experiment with HDR. I'd seen a lot of excellent HDR images of old vehicles and thought this truck had great potential.
Editing
This was three bracketed exposures. I used PhotomatixPro to process them.
In my camera bag
What do I have in my bag? Let's see. These days I carry my Canon T5 and kit lens. Canon 75-300 lens, my Canon "Nifty Fifty" and a Tamron AF 90mm prime. I also carry a small assortment of filters, a charger, some cleaning supplies and a couple of field guides. Oh, and my tripod, of course. Although that doesn't actually fit in the bag.:)
Feedback
Advice for shooting something similar? Well, Old vehicles with a lot of rust and, or several different shades of weathered paint make excellent candidates for this HDR. As I said before, I like to take shots from several different angles so I have a variety to choose fro when deciding on the finished product. Use a tripod. Although the alignment features in the latest HDR processing programs are so good that you can get away with hand held. Having said that, If you want to assure a pin sharp image, definitely use a tripod, Set your Exposure compensation to AEB. (Automatic Exposure Bracketing) Set your self timer to 2 seconds and shoot however many shots your particular camera will allow in this mode. Once you decide which of your angles you're most pleased with, use an HDR processing program like PhotomatixPro or NIK to blend your multiple exposure into the final product.
