Behind The Lens

Location

Photo shows Seljalandsfoss waterfall in Iceland

Time

I took that photo around midnight during white night, thanks to that I had a place to myself and I didn't have to worry about people in my shoot.

Lighting

Since the sun never went down I had hours of sunset light with a sky burning red very strongly most of a time which made the rocks around the waterfall very red

Equipment

I've used Canon 5d mark iii with canon 17-40mm lens, tripod, b+w 10 stop ND filter and polarizer filter to get extra stops since the light was very strong

Inspiration

Iceland was my dream for a long time after seeing lots of beautiful images from this one of a kind place. I love black and white photography and my main goal for this trip was to capture and create Icelandic waterfalls in a dark mood showing their beauty without the colors.

Editing

Yes, first some basic adjustments in camera raw and than I moved to silver effex to create the black and white image. I usually choose a preset and play around with sliders to get the darkest looking image I can get in silver effex.

In my camera bag

Normally I pack my camera Canon 5D mark iii, lenses to cover the range from 14mm to 105mm, ND filters + polarizer, extra batteries and memory cards, tripod, shutter remote and cleaning stuff.

Feedback

Always shoot raw, Visit the same place many times during different light conditions. Travel as much as you can because shooting in a new place moves you forward. Go back to your images after time and play around with the image cause you might have learned something new or your just in a different mood than before witch can change the final image a lot.
