This is a complex shot.
The lighting setup has to be perfect and you only have one chance to get the shot right, because in contact with air, the filament burns in a fraction on a second. It tooks about 15 to 20 minutes to prepare each shot!

The final product is fantastic.... It looks simple, but very challenging to capture...simply outstanding.... Well done...awarded

Beautiful shot! You captured the soul of the lightbulb! Also the tungsten oxide (white cloud) is harmful(causes cancer) so be careful with it (you know, well ventilated area, gasmask, etc). :-)

Location
I took this photo in Paris, at my place.Time
Time doesn't matter, lighting and patience does.Lighting
I have a background in electronic engineering; and at the time I had no lighting equipment whatsoever. I had to figure out how to light both the smoke and the metal withount burning the metal.Equipment
If I remember properly, I used a Canon 50d, no flash and a macro lens USM 100mmInspiration
I was bored waiting for an image to render, I had lightbulbs and an idea.Editing
No post except for a tiny color correction. Smoke is real and is due to the filament burning! In my camera bag
Today, I use a 6d, 3 prime lenses; a 50mm, a 85mm and a 100mm macro lens. Add to that a 24-105mm and a 150-600mm tamron lens, a god tripod and a monopod.Feedback
Patience. Shooting at the exact moment. You have one shot, if you missed, you need to repeat the whole process all over again! Breaking the glass without breaking the filament is not easy and each lightbulb is different.
