Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken on a rainy day in May 2013 at the entrance of Birkenau near Cracow in Poland. I was a long time in front of the entrance gate with an eye to those rails waiting for an answer to the questions that crowded in my mind

Time

It was the beginning of the afternoon but it was very cold and came down from the sky a fine fine drizzle that chilled bones and thoughts ... everything was enveloped in a mist as if to hide the weight that that place of pain leads

Lighting

Nothing. The atmospher (mist and rain) was the best to obtain this shot...but i think that it was the excitement of thoughts and doubts about life to direct all. Perhaps, if it was a sunny day I don't think I took this shot

Equipment

In that moment I used a bridge camera, a Panasonic DMC-FZ150, no flash, no tripod. It was a colour shot converted in black and white...even if there was not a great difference because of the mist and the rain

Inspiration

The train tracks, , the meaning they have today and what accounted for the Jews and for all the people that yesterday and unfortunately even today suffer

Editing

I used Lightroom to converte in B&W to increase contrast and shadows

In my camera bag

Now i use a reflex, a canon 700D with various lenses...I love macro.

Feedback

My thoughts are: in a place like that you don't take the shot to obtain a beautiful shot ....it is only your aching hardly hit heart
