Location
This was at the Devils Punchbowl Falls on the South Island of New Zealand about half way through Arthur’s Pass.Time
It was just after noon.Lighting
Since I was on a group tour I didn’t have the luxury of picking the time of day to visit the falls, so I had to work with what I had.Equipment
I was using the Canon 60d with the 18-55mm kit lens at 18mm.Inspiration
This is an amazing waterfall to visit and the viewing platform allows one a very closeup encounter with the falls, but as we were heading back to the car park I stopped at the base to get another look before leaving and I felt that I really needed to get this shot from the base of the falls.Editing
Not really. I was really new to using a DSLR camera and at the time was completely baffled by LR and PS so I only did minimal color enhancement. In my camera bag
Right now I’m using the Canon 7d MKII and bring along the EF-S 18-135mm, 10-18mm wide angle, 50mm, 24mm and my newest addition to the kit, the 100-400mm L lens.Feedback
I have learned a lot since I took this picture and I would love to go back and reshoot, not only this, but the entire trip. A few things that I would do differently on this particular shot would be to take several shots with different shutter speeds to change the look of the waterfall using shutter priority. Another would be to try turning the camera to portrait in order to isolate the waterfall and get a more dramatic effect.
