Location
I took this photo on a beach which is about 30 minutes from my home. One of the many beaches where i can see the sunset over the ocean.Time
After a work day, me and my husband went to the beach to see the sunset. This photo was not planned, I was shooting the sunset, when i see my husband contemplating the sun and the sea. The sunset colors were reflected in the water and i thought the moment was perfect and took the photo.Lighting
The effect of light reflected in the water was only possible when the waves were heading to the sea. That were the ideal moments to get the "carpet" of light. Expose for the background is crucial to get the silhouette effect.Equipment
Just an old Sony DSC camera in my hand.Inspiration
As I said, this picture was not planned. I was walking down the beach photographing the sunset and when I saw my husband to the water's edge looking at the sunset, with a light carpet in front, I had a sense of peace and serenity. The clouds disposed in the same shape that the water left in the sand made me feel as if the universe were aligned for that moment.Editing
A slight increase of saturation and levels. In my camera bag
Now i always have with me a canon 60D. The lenses that always carry are, a Canon 100 mm 2.8 macro to shoot the small world, a canon 400 mm for wildlife and a sigma 17-55 for landscapes. I found in my mother's house an old Pentacon 50mm 1.8, i bought a adapter for my canon, and i really like this lens that although stiff gives me a strong bokeh that I love.Feedback
It is a cliché, but is true. Nature is unpredictable. Not always a sunset is accompanied by clouds that spread the colors in the sky and in the water. Check the meteorology and tides, and if you reach the beach and there is a flat sky or so many clouds that there is no color at all, think that any sky can be fun to shoot. Shoot, do experiments, try and have fun and if you do not have satisfactory results come back tomorrow and enjoy it all over again.
