This photo was taken in Yellowstone National Park during a vacation in June 2014.Time
Tis picture was taken around 10 in the morning. I was walking on the boardwalks of Yellowstone National Park with my husband and my then 4 year old daughter. At that time she was getting really interested in photography so while I was taking pictures I tried to explain to her, what is important about composition in a picture, because I for this picture I was almost down on my belly and she kept asking me "Mom what are you doing down there, why don't you take the picture standing just like the other people do?" Most fun thing was after I got down, lots of other people who were watching me before tried to do the same.Lighting
The lighting at that time of the day was nearly perfect for the shot, because the bacterial mats which give the color to the Hot Springs and Geysers where beautifully lit and one could see the texture in there.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Nikon D7000 with 18-70mm my at a focal lenght of 18mm and an aperture of f/8.0 with ISO 200 and a shutter speed of 1/160Inspiration
I was originally looking for a place with lots of colorful bacterial mats to do some macro shots of the bacterial mats. But after walking around and taking some pictures and macros I realized those wonderful texture in the bacteria which leads right into the picture.Editing
Since the scene was so well lit and so colorful I did only minimal editing on the raw. I had to correct the white balance and enhance the colors a bit and did a crop.In my camera bag
The one thing I always carry when travelling is the 28-300mm Nikkor, back in 2014 when I still used the D7000 I would always carry my 18-70mm which is now replaced by a Nikkor 16-35mm for my Nikon D800. Most of the time I also carry the 24-70 2.8 and my 105mm Macro as well as an reversed 28mm for extreme macro.Feedback
Yellowstone National Park is one of the most beautiful National Parks in the world due to it's extraordinary features like geysers and hot springs but also due to the abundance of wildlife. As a photographer I'd recommend going there in early June or in early September when there are less people so you can enjoy the nature and stop everywhere for taking pictures. Just don't forget to take clothing for every temperature, the weather there can change very quickly. There can be just hours between warm temperatures and heavy snow.
