I took this shot at the LA equestrian center in Burbank, California.Time
This was an early morning warm-up preparing for an early morning dressage test. The sun had just started to rise over the mountains and the cool weather allowed for the breath of the horse to be seen in the sunlight.Lighting
The lighting was amazing...that moment when the sun just starts to peak over the mountain top and shine its rays on the twilight of the morning.Equipment
I used my Canon Mark III with my 70-300 mm lens.Inspiration
I love horses and always have had them in my life in one way or another. This horse belongs to a dear friend who was competing that morning and I couldn't pass up the chill of the air and early lighting that blended just perfectly to create this moment.Editing
I played a little bit with the contrast so I could emphasize the horses breath. In my camera bag
I normally carry my Canon Mark III and my 70-300 mm lens when photographing horses and wildlife.Feedback
To capture a shot like this you need to be up early when the light of the sun is first shining in the sky. You don't have a lot of time to play with so don't be afraid to keep shooting until you feel satisfied with what you see.
