Geoff was kind enough to act as my human tripod for this DreamWorld (http:--sarahallegra.com-DreamWorld.html) self portrait I shot over Christmas. As things in my daily life have become extremely stressful recently, having a self portrait to edit in little chunks of time between stressful events was quite vital to my mental health.
It also ended up being something of a mirror for what I was going through and reflected how I was feeling. I've mentioned that Geoff and I were going to be moving, and that we didn't want to move for a variety of reasons, but most of all, we didn't want to leave the wonderful neighbors we'd become so close to. We shared a yard with them, our animals played together, we borrowed cups of sugar from each other; it was like having family right across the yard and I was genuinely devastated to lose that. We will, of course, keep in touch and our dogs will have playdates, but we're never going to have the closeness of being right across the yard from each other. I've spent quite a lot of time crying recently, mostly mourning that loss.
Being able to channel the lack of control, the emotional turmoil and hectic craziness of the move into this self portrait was very cathartic. There's nothing like art therapy!
More about all this and some other adventures I've had recently later; as of last night I came down with the cold everyone around me has gotten one by one and was up with a fever for much of last night. So I will leave you here with the image for now and I'll worry about blog posts later.
