That is a crew! Beautiful. Yes, the capture, too. Thank you for sharing.

Photo was taken in Central City, Iowa in August, 2010Time
Photo was taken about 12:00 noon.Lighting
Didn't have much time to think about lighting as the horses only appeared for a few minutes before going back into the barn.Equipment
Pentax K20D with a 55 -300 mm lense, tripod and no flashInspiration
We were visiting family and decided to go for a little drive to see if I could find anything to shoot. We had just turned off the highway to visit a state park when I saw this small barn with a grey horse in the coral and made a point of stopping on the way back. Upon returning I parked the car and got out my tripod and set up my Pentax on the side of the gravel rode. While setting up the grey horse I saw earlier backed out from the stall and looked out through the open door and a few moments later a small horse also backed out from a stall and looked out through the door to see what I was doing. They were only at the door for a very short time before going back inside. It was one of those moments that I was at the right place at the right time.Editing
When I shot the photo the camera settings were AP mode, f4.5, iso 200, 1/750sec with no flash. I pulled the photo up in photoshop made some adjustments with curves before cropping. When I had this photo printed I used metallic paper which really made the photo pop even more.In my camera bag
Back when I had the Pentax K20D I had two lenes, 18-50mm and a 55-300mm, external flash, two batteries, some polarizers, and a tripod. Since then I traded for a Canon SX50 which can get me those upclose and far away shots. I always have my monopod and tripod in my car and an extra battery.Feedback
Not being familar with the area I got lucky when I came across these two amazing horses. Back then I wasn't shooting RAW but now I shoot both RAW and JPEG to give more detailes when processing. I think one of the more important pieces of advise given by photographers is to always have your camera at hand and ready to shoot. Just as in fishing, no one enjoys hearing about the one that got away...
