Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in lake Braies, in the Dolomites in South Tyrol, Italy.

Time

The photo was taken around 11AM, but the day was overcast, so there was no direct light from the sun.

Lighting

I never use a flash. I do not own any external unit and, to be honest, I do not know how to properly use a flash. The photo was taken using only natural light, with no reflectors.

Equipment

I used a Canon G 1X to take this photo. I try to travel as light as possible, so I did not take any other camera with me.

Inspiration

The dark clouds in the background created a terrific atmosphere around the lake, while the trees acted as a natural frame. The mountains reflected on the lake surface gave a great extra detail.

Editing

I try not to use too much post-processing. Usually I just correct for the lens distortion, contrast and vibrance.

In my camera bag

When I travel I either go with only a Canon G 1X or with a Canon 450D with two lenses, a 50mm and a 18-55mm one.

Feedback

When capturing such an image, use the spot evaluative metering centered on the image reflected on the water.
