Location
I was doing some contract work in a warehouse style building and there was this room upstairs that was empty but had this perfect window just begging for someone to take a photo. The actual location was Rocklea, QLD, Australia.Time
This was taken about mid-afternoon from memory.Lighting
This was shot using the window light only. The window looked out to an alley, so the light was already diffused and reflected off the alley wall opposite before being further diffused by the window. The room was in an otherwise pretty dark warehouse building which created a great contrast from the window light spilling in this corner, to the darkness off to the right.Equipment
Nikon D7100 with an 18-55mm kit lens. Inca i530 tripod. Generic IR remote control.Inspiration
There was a challenge on another photo site. Nat Geo Your Shot I think it was that was calling for "Faceless portraits". So that was the subject I had in mind for it. I also couldn't pass up the chance to make use of this great space and window light, despite myself being the only model I had to shoot.Editing
Some basic curves and levels adjustments and a b&w conversion. Probably a bit of cropping as well.In my camera bag
It's pretty basic. Nikon D7100, Nikon D5100. 18-55mm kit lens. 55-300mm telephoto lens. ND1000,Var ND, CPL filters. Cleaning clothes, remote control. Lens pen. Tripod.Feedback
Window light is awesome. Never underestimate the quality of a good diffused window light portrait. Just make sure you've got someone or something attractive to shoot. :)
