Behind The Lens

Location

At that time I was often going to Toronto Flea Market down on the Front Street. Loved seeing the old and interesting things, talking with vendors.

Time

As far as I remember it was close to the end of the day ?! It was more than 5 years ago:-)

Lighting

Sun was coming at an angle into space behind the gentleman, however, there was enough light in the space not to have him in the shadow. It would have been better if there was a bit of a deeper shadow on part of his face... Maybe next time.

Equipment

Camera: Canon EOS 6D Aperture: f/4.0 ISO: 640 Shutter Speed: 1/80

Inspiration

The way that the gentleman was dressed. Especially the hat as well his stern look. I didn't know that he will look at me when I took a shot! Felt a bit odd for making it but... There was no complaint and I am happy that I did. His look is really captivating and the photo wouldn't be the same without the eyes looking toward the camera.

Editing

Transferred colour photo to Black and white with a bit of burning and adjusting the exposure. Wanted to have the "Noir" feel to this portrait.

In my camera bag

Now it is Canon 6D Mark II or EOS Rebel SLI which is in my bag all the time, with the Tamron 18-270 F/3.5-6.3. It's easier to carry every day. When I go out to explore 6D is the one that takes its place in the bag.

Feedback

Not really, since I am new to these ad-hoc photographs and street photography. I, however, feel compelled to take pictures of the people that are living on the street and on the margin of society, especially in countries like Canada. Rich countries that are not putting enough effort into helping the poor. Taking those pictures is hard for me since I think that I am invading their privacy, however, I would love to show to people how, seeing them alone, lost and almost frozen in time when everyone around is rushing without time to even acknowledge them, they still exist among us.
