Location
This photo was taken just outside of my studio in Nebraska. I am lucky to have beautiful surroundings so close!Time
This photo was taken just before the sun went down and was the last picture of the evening. The kids were getting to the end of the session and very tired of having their picture taken so I had them just go out and run and play to finish off the evening on a high!Lighting
This image is all natural light and was taken in the fall with a beautiful warm sunset. I loved how the clouds and jet stream bring your eye right into the subjects.Equipment
This was shot with the Canon 5D mark III and Canon 85mm f1.2L lens.Inspiration
These children were so much fun to shoot! We had a beautiful evening for their session and I just could not pass up that sky! The leading lines were amazing. I envisioned this in my head, and the children were excited to be able to run and play. It all came together very well.Editing
Yes, This image is actually two images blended in photoshop. One of the sky and one of the foreground with the children. I prefer shooting with natural light only. I could have acheived a similar look with a flash and one exposure, but I do not like to carry any more equipment around than I have to. I love the softness that you can achieve with natural light and a little post processing. In my camera bag
My camera bag is pretty light. I have my Canon mark III, 85mm 1.2L and 70-200mm F2.8L.Feedback
Just let the kids run and have fun. It I asked them to hold hands and gave them a little direction as to the direction they should run, but that was it. I typically shoot wide open to create that soft background and to bring the eye right to the subject so I waited until they were on the same plane to keep focus. I exposed for the kids and the sky in separate images then blended in photoshop to create one final image.
