Behind The Lens

Location

Leeward coast of Oahu Hawaii. The most beautiful location for sunsets in the world.

Time

I live right on the coast of leeward Oahu. I was taking a walk up the coast after large winter swells had rolled in and came across this tide pool with the beautiful reflection of the earl sunset around 5pm.

Lighting

Shooting sunsets I use a low ISO of 100 taking several shots at a variety of shutter speeds and aperture of 5.4 to 10.

Equipment

Nikon D5200 with Nikor 18mm

Inspiration

Walking along the coastline and coming across this beautiful reflection in the tide pool was a rare moment I had to capture.

Editing

I always post my photos after dumping them into my computer. I go through all the shots for that session, one by one, first doing automatic adjustment, than making whatever changes I feel they need.

In my camera bag

I always carry several lens in my bag. To provide more room I use an 18-55mm and 55-300mm lens. I also carry 2 fully charged batteries, lens tissue, neutral density filter cleaner and flash. And also my camera.

Feedback

If looking to capture a sunset the final half hour before the sun sets behind the horizon is the best time to capture the moment. The sky and weather are the key element to what your sunset will look like. Clouds, haze and composition are the key. A clear sky is NOT a good time for a sunset shot. Take several shots adjusting your shutter speed and aperture. The post sunset sky is also a beautiful moment for composing a picture.
