This is a red longhorn beetle, in Latin: leptura rubra, from the Cerambycidae. The beetle walks in the dunes, where it leaves tracks in the sand. By photographing it on the back with the tracks and the landscape on the background, I tried to give the whole an illusion of far distance. To a human, it was not far to reach the trees on the background, but for such little creatures it must seem a long way to go. Most people don't like beetles, so I see it as my goal to introduce humans in the little world of insects by showing the world through the eyes of an insect, so they would learn to understand and appreciate them. Photographed in Loon-op-Zand, the Netherlands
