E. K. Fawcett first came to Val Verde County, Texas in 1845 as one of the first ranchers. He lived in a cave on Dolan Creek for two years before he built his ranch a short ways away. It was struck by lighting and much burned and now other parts in in ruins. It is however a great place to photograph.
