Behind The Lens

Location
The photo was taken at my summer cottage during one Christmas holiday in 2014. I love the place to bits and try to memorize different seasons and thus learn something new every single time of how to use my photography equipment, how to play with the light etc.
Time
It was already afternoon but since the dusk falls very early during the winter months the day light is already fading.
Lighting
The low sun light gives a wonderful blue and pink hue. It also gives away the extreme cold weather it was back then, temperatures dropping as low as -28. The snow donates a nice light contrast as well to the dark country house.
Equipment
Back then I still had my old Nikon Coolpix P520 with a fixed lens. The photo has been taken handheld.
Inspiration
The whole place, my summer cottage, and the surrounding nature is very inspiring. There is always something new, something different to discover. The change of seasons, the light from different angles and all wildlife around it. I feel very much empowered and energized there as well so relaxed and happy.
Editing
I did only very tiny adjustments to sharpness and shadows but basically this is how it was in reality.
In my camera bag
My camera bag content is quite modest and for the time being I like to keep it so. I carry along now my newer Nikon D3200 with two lenses (18-55 mm and 55-200 mm), extra battery and a polarization filter. Very rarely I take a tripod with me since I do like to have more freedom to move around. Sometimes I pack in the bag also my small Nikon Coolpix pocket camera since it gives nice macros.
Feedback
It is important to see what the surrounding world has to offer. Great prohography targets can be nearer than you expect. For me concentrating on things that truly inspires me, has given the very best photos. One of my photography motto's is "Darpe Diem!", take the chance and be ready. Something that is familiar to me and have an emotional bond is also very important for me. Passion to excel my capabilities drives me on to learn new all the time.
