It was fully under flash light. There were two of them: the main one on my right and another fill light on my left. I tried to set them that way to show the sword's nice metal texture and the subject's eyes to be lighted too.Equipment

I thought of Peter Jackson`s Lord of the Rings movie, actually. Something between it and Esquire magazine style. The idea was to create a realistic portrait of brutal medieval knight. We have the full medieval knight outfit. It is very heavy, weighs about 30 kg. And I asked the model to attack imaginary enemy and to jump and fight. But all of the pictures just don't look realistic. We both got tired and had no more ideas and then—suddenly—this simple pose worked perfect.Editing
Yes. 3 steps: 1) Increase contrast, make it BW 2) Highlight the sword and eyes 3) Add more texture and film grain effectIn my camera bag

Here is my 3-STEPS recipe of how to get realistic expression from non-professional model: 1) SET THE LIGHT... Make sure model can move freely and light is still good on model`s face. 2) ...MAKE UP A STORY, add some action, talk to your model(!!!), make up a story when shooting and ask model to play it. 3) SHOOT MORE! And keep attention on shadows and the silhouette.
