This phot is a result of the skill and vision of the photographer, but more so the care and concern for capturing a moment like this. Framing them with not only the window but with the light. Beautifully composed!!!

Location
The photo was taken in the brides' hotel suite in the Leopoldskron Palace in Salzburg, Austria. This location may be well known to many people who have seen the movie, "The Sound of Music" with Julie Andrews. The palace, terrace and gardens , situated at the Leopoldskron Weiher, a large pond, served as the exterior location of the Von Trapp Family's House. The Palace has a Hotel and is now used for various seminars, events and weddings, as well as for meetings of the Salzburg Global Seminar, a non profit organization with the objective of challenging present and future leaders to solve issues of global concern.Time
The time of day was early afternoon, around 1pm as the bride was getting ready for the afternoon wedding ceremony to be held in the gardens below.Lighting
It was a sunny day and I decided to go with natural lighting to keep my presence as unobtrusive as possible. The lighting inside the room was quite nice, due to the large windows on 2 sides of the suite. As the bride and her sisters were involved in some preparation not meant to be photographed, I took some shots of the window location to check lighting and exposure. I asked the bride and her two sisters to go to the large window and allowing the light from outside to provide backlighting. I took several images and different exposures as they stood by the window talking and directed the poses in a minimal way. The sunlight from outside lit up the 2 sister's and beautifully as they turned toward the bride and conversed.Equipment
I photographed with a Nikon D4 and a 24-85mm Zoom lens hand held. I did not yet have the 24-70mm 2.8 lens, I now have, so I was somewhat more restricted in terms of my exposure. However I was not going for a shallow depth of field. I wanted the architecture of the beautiful room, as well as the detail of the 3 sisters and their dresses to be sharp.Inspiration
There was a very special feeling of nurturing love and excitement between the bride and her two sisters. On a visual level ,all three sisters being close in age and all looking remarkably similar, I saw their elegant forms as a wonderful completion of the architecture of this beautiful interior space . I was aware that I was photographing sisters sharing a very special day ,and that their family closeness was a great gift . The coming together of various elements such as location, fashion, and expression was unique. And the weather that day was beautiful, which is not always the case in Austria, even in summer.Editing
I changed the image to black and white because I felt it was more elegant. The composition and forms were more important to me than the colors. I had a nice sky outside, but because of the white clouds losing some texture, I added bits of sky/clouds from another image to give texture everywhere. The exposure for the interior was the most important for me. I didn't want a real silhouette of the sisters, but rather detail everywhere. In my camera bag
I have a Nikon D4 in my bag, and a Nikon D700 as a back-up, a Nikon 14-24 mm 2.8 zoom, a Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 zoom, and a Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 zoom. I carry two Nikon 910 speedlights , a Lastolite small softbox with a portable tripod and Pocket Wizards. I take a monopod for dark churches and also to ease the strain of carrying around a heavy camera .Feedback
I tend to use a mid range lens like the 24-70 mm for situations at weddings where everything moves at a rapid pace and is unpredictable. I think that finding the right light is more important then the right location. In this situation, I looked for the best places in the room for rendering an interesting atmosphere. Also places which were clean and would not involve moving things around much. There is much luck involved too. Things move fast, so personally, I find that if I go with the flow and am constantly aware of the given opportunities , I get the best results. I like to think in terms of composition and often see people as elements of the architecture, and then I wait for the expression. Sometimes the order is reversed, first expression then composition, but they go hand in hand.
