Location
This photo of Ruger was taken inside a shelter in SD while he waited for his forever home.Time
It was about 5:00pm when we got to take his photo.Lighting
The sun had gone down so even though we were by a window there was no natural light left. I took this with one speedlight.Equipment
My Nikon D5300 and a 35mm prime. I had one speedlight with a shoot through umbrella I used as my main light.Inspiration
I teamed up with a local rescue shelter to take portraits of their pups who need a home. It gives them an opportunity to be seen as more than a shelter dog, I wanted to show their family pet potential.Editing
Yes I did post in Photoshop turning the portrait black and white. I increased the contrast too a bit.In my camera bag
I tend to keep it minimal with my body and two lenses and an off camera speedlight.Feedback
I am used to taking photos of babies so I am always trying to get down to eye level of my subjects. I was down on my belly trying to get a more interesting angle. Everyone sees their pets from a high angle, getting low lets the pet's personality shine. Also, have lots of treats.
