Apparently, if you take a picture of this tree, you win feature. This is the third featured photo of the same tree by three different photographers. A great photo, though!

Location
I was traveling through Washington and Oregon during a two state photo shoot when the cloud cover rolled in and turned the landscape a wonderful soft hue of green and orange. I was in Portland shooting waterfalls so I headed over to the Japanese Garden in hopes of shooting their fantastic sculptured Japanese maple trees.Time
I arrived early in the morning and was there when the gates opened at 10:00 am. I couldn't believe that no one else was there. I had the entire garden to myself for a good hour or so. I was amazed sitting under this little tree listing to the rain fall around me and remember thinking, I couldn't believe how beautiful and peaceful the gardens were.Lighting
If you look closely you can see the rain drops hitting the water just to the right of the tree. I was sitting there all alone and the clouds parted just enough for the light to filter through the leaves and create this crazy warm glow all around me.Equipment
At the time I was using a Canon 5D Mark II on a remote and a 16/35 2.8 L leans. No filter and I had the rig mounted on a tripod to capture this wonderful light.Inspiration
I have wanted to shoot this tree since the day I stepped into one of Lik's gallery's. Standing in front of that print I couldn't believe how amazing it was and I couldn't wait to see it myself. When I had the opportunity, I took it and I'm so glad I did. It was a wonder that I will never forget. You wouldn't believe from looking but this tree is no taller then I am. To capture this shot I was laying on the ground under its beautiful canopy.Editing
I shoot everything in RAW so I imported my images into Lightroom adjusted camera calibration and moved over to Photoshop to adjust shadows, highlights and tonal curves using Tony Kuyper's TK actions, for my finial color adjustments I dropped the image into NIK collections Viveza. In my camera bag
I'v been shooting Canon for as long as I can remember. I normally carry two bodies a 5DMk III and a 5Ds, to support the bodies I bring along a 16/35 2.8 L, 24/70 2.8 L, 70/200 2.8 L a 100/400 4.5 L and a 1.4 extender. This is my main landscape kit, I also support this with 4 extra camera batteries, cable release, pocket wizards for remote shooting tethered to the camera and if I need fill light the 600 ex-rt and its quiver of rechargeable AA batteries does the trick, Hoya ND filters and Heliopan circular polarizes, then theirs the other items like camera rain covers, Hood Man loop, leans (make up) brush and other stuff like a pocket knife, whistle, small first aid bag and a balder for drinking water, extra glasses and a fist full of memory cards. This is all stuffed into a North Face 3 day bag which has been modified to hold all this gear safe and secure. Outside of the bag I have strapped on a Getzo Mountaineer carbon fiber tripod with a Really Right Stuff ball head. I even have room for lunch!Feedback
