Let me guess! He's just been made redundant! His job has been 'outsourced' to somewhere in the third world. To add insult to injury, his wife, who took a wow to stand by him for better or worse gave him the boot!

He’s actually a traveling salesman and he has a very nice wife at home. Unfortunately he likes to hook up with other women when he’s out of town on business. After 21 years of marriage, and many chances, his wife finally left him. Now he can chase all the women he wants.

I took this photo in my basement studio.Time
I really don't remember what time of day I took this picture; with an indoor shoot and lights, it doesn't matter.Lighting
I used constant lights for this picture - two Westcott TD6s. I love constant lights because what you see is what you get - no surprises, no metering. I use them for all sorts of things. Sometimes I set one up on the back porch and lure birds to the railing with seed.The light helps to counteract the strong back light of the sun and pops the birds eyes. I have strobes, but I primarily use them when I want to blow out a white backdrop for high key lighting.Equipment
I took this picture with my Olympus OMD EM1 and my favorite portrait lens - Zuiko 75mm. Because I used constant lights, my ISO was set to 500. I used a slow shutter speed of 1/20, so my camera was on my tripod.Inspiration
Our corgi, Franklin, is quite a character and I wanted to portray that in this portrait. He seems like an old man in a dog's body and reminds me of my grandfather who was a traveling salesman in an earlier era. I used some old suitcases and a hat to try and step back in time. My grandfather's bags probably would have been similar and he definitely had the hat. I really wanted Frank to wear the hat, but he refused and it didn't fit his head right anyway. The tie isn't similar to one my grandfather would have worn but it seemed so apropos because it advertises Red Dog beer. I'm sure that would be Frank's drink of choice, if I allowed him drink something besides water!Editing
I made sure the white balance and exposure were the way I wanted them in Lightroom. Then I created layers in Photoshop to sharpen Frank's eyes and nose and to soften the backdrop a bit.In my camera bag
I keep two Olympus OMD Em1s in my backpack. I had a camera fail on me once during a photo shoot and I had to use someone else's camera to finish. I won't let that happen again - I always have a back-up. I keep a charger and couple batteries in my bag with a bunch of SD cards. I pack lenses each time I go out dependent on what and where I'm shooting. I always pack more lenses than I need. My go-to lens is my fast Zuiko 75mm. I also depend a lot on my Panasonic 100-300 zoom and my Zuiko 12-50 mm. I keep a pair of fingerless gloves in my backpack, too, and it is surprising how many times I've needed to use them.Feedback
Frank cooperated during the photo shoot because I had doggie treats for bribes and an assistant (my husband) to talk to him and encourage him to look towards the camera. I always keep a photo shoot with my dogs short. If I don't like the pictures, I try again another day. That way the dogs never dread their time in front of the camera - it's short and sweet and they get rewarded for their work! Frank actually volunteers to have his picture taken when I set up a background. Sometimes that's a problem when I'm trying to photograph a client!
