Location
My dog Dacey and I were playing tag in the meadow next to the house.Time
It was about 10:00 in the morning on an overcast day after an overnight snowfall.Lighting
The light was flat, but the snow added a reflective brightness. I set the ISO to 200 which gave me 1/500 shutter at an f8.Equipment
I used my Nikon D7100 with a Sigma 18-250 zoom.Inspiration
Dacey loves the snow, so I knew what would happen when I let her loose. With the camera pre-set, all I had to do was shoot her in action.Editing
For editing, I cropped in tight and adjusted the exposure the get the snow "right". In a finished image, snow must be as white as possible without loss of detail. In my camera bag
Since I knew what I was after no bag was necessary. When shooting on location, I usually have two bodies and load the lenses I know I will need, plus remotes and other miscellaneous to cover the unexpected.Feedback
For action, think shutter speed. Before I go out in a snow situation I pre-set the camera for what I think will work, but I recommend checking camera settings once you are out in the snow. Even without the sun, shooting in snow can be tricky. As the situation allows, I stop to preview a number of shots to verify exposures, a real life-saver to be using the more advanced cameras.
