Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at the Saint Martin Island of Bangladesh. St. Martin's Island is a small island in the northeastern part of the Bay of Bengal, about 9 km south of the tip of the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf peninsula. I love taking pictures. I just found the perfect angle for me to take a few snaps, right after I had arrived at the port of the island.

Time

Between 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm. Sun was shining above the head. The weather was good.

Lighting

Well, it was an otherwise sunny day with a few clouds floating on the sky here and there. Sometimes the sun was hiding behind the clouds, the clouds were illuminated by the light. There was enough of lights and sheds when I took this photo. The hide and seek of sun and illuminated clouds made nice arrangement of lights and shadows for this shot.

Equipment

I took a cell phone camera to take these shots. No tripod I was holding there. Otherwise, back then I carried a Sony Cybershot DSC W370.

Inspiration

When I arrived at the island for the first time, it was an amazing experience for me. I wanted to capture my memory. I was taking picture of the sea, sea shore and the distant village of the Saint Martin Island. I was looking for interesting subjects. Then I found those boats kept near the bridge or pathway to the island. Those boats and the scene and the background captured my attention. I wanted to take a photo of the boats from a nice angle, with the partial front view of the island on background (which made an interesting background for my photo). I wanted to capture the picturesque scenario that I had experienced with my eyes and share with the world through my camera lens.

Editing

Not anything much that I remember. I increased the size of picture. also I edited the color a little bit just to adjust the color of sea water and sky.

In my camera bag

Nowadays I have Nikon cool pix L830. it's a refurbished camera I had received from Amazon.com, sometimes I do carry a mini tripod. I carry my Samsung smart phone to take instant snaps often.

Feedback

When you take photo at the seaside or island, keep looking for interesting objects like boat, ship, trees, village, animals etc. Make sure the background is interesting similarly or more. Help people or viewers find a story in your photograph. Take 2 or 3 (same kind of) pictures when you believe you've found a great location, angle and perfect situation and atmosphere for taking a photo. Look for a perfect place where you should take the shot from. When you take photos near the seaside, you can take wonderful pictures: 1. When the sun is in the middle of the sky,( take 11 am). Best timing 12 pm - 1 pm or even 2 pm. during this time sea water looks amazingly blue and clean. 2. You can take photos from 3 pm to sunset to capture some nice golden /scarlet shots of sea water, during afternoon and sunset. Because, during the afternoon, sea water looks kind of golden as the sun leans on west, which is why it looks beautiful. Needless to say that during sunset , the sea water has an another unexplained beauty. Be careful about your health when you travel to sea or island. Make sure you take sun screen, hat etc. Keep hydrated or it's going to wear you out. No one escapes from bathing in the sea ultimately, no matter how much adamant you are about not bathing in the sea. Just be careful while you bathe. Keep track of the time, tides, waves etc. Come back with the memory of nice and memorable tour and share your amazing photography with the world. All the best !
