Wow!!! You've got me down the bottom of those steps and ready for the fishing, .... maybe not the walk back up the 1000 steps :)

Location
This photograph was taken at 1000 Steps State Beach in Santa Barbara, CA.Time
The photograph was taken during dusk time.Lighting
The lighting is quite unique because of the canyon setting. Light, is much brighter outside of the canyon walls off in the distance from where the image was taken. So exposing becomes a give and take at this moment, a sort of compromise as to which elements will be exposed properly or not within the image. Also, knowing your editing capabilities will help in the capturing process within that compromise.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D7000 with an 18-105 lens.Inspiration
I knew of this location, but had not yet taken a camera with me there. This day there happen to be these two fishermen one was caught in the high tide and the other was still fishing calmly waiting for his friend to make his way back as if it were no big deal. I photographed a whole series and this photograph just spoke to me.Editing
Some post processing mainly just in exposure and saturation enhancements, but no compositing has been done on the image. In my camera bag
My main camera now is a Sony A7r and I shoot with a Tamron 19-35 nikon mount with the metabones adapter. I also carry a 50mm Nikor f/1.4 with me and then a regular, Sony 18-55 kit lens for things that are on the move, I like to use native systems as much as possible, but sometimes we have to work with what we have. When I shoot sports or moving objects I still use my Nikon D7000 along with an 18mm-105mm, and a70mm-300mm Nikon lens package.Feedback
Timing and the ability to recognize when those times are taking place along with the agility or ability to react to them will be your best friend. Understanding how people and the world are relative and work together helps as well a lot in this leg of the field.
