I love the ocean and stormy weather and had been watching this system approach the WA coastline for several days, so with that in mind I headed to one of my favourite spots with camera in hand to see what unfolded.Editing
I always shoot in RAW (NEF) and therefore need to do some post-processing of my images. Using Adobe Lightroom I adjusted the contrast, highlights and shadow details and perhaps a touch of vibrance, but try to leave the image looking as natural as possible.In my camera bag
My D600, 16-35, 24-120 and 70-200 lenses, ND and polariser filters, cleaning kit, spare batteries and always keep my tripod in the carFeedback
Find a spot you're familiar with and have visited at various times of the day, to see how the light changes and the effect it has on the subject. I knew this area to be sheltered from the wind, (need a steady camera for long exposures), and there was a building swell which created the "misty" effect around the rocks. Using the 10stop ND filter I adjusted the aperature and ISO until I could get a 30 second exposure to allow for movement of the waves and clouds, - in this instance I used f/22 and 64 ISO, to capture a correct exposure. I would like to have shot later in the afternoon but nature and the elements dictated. (An hour later is was pouring with rain with 80-100km/hr winds!)
