Location
This photo was taken at the Kolkata Botanical Gardens.Time
I remember the day as cloudy and gloomy. At about 11 A.M. the gates of the Botanical Garden were opened. The possibility of rains meant there were a few of these Dragonflies fluttering about. I was lucky to spot one such perfectly poised specimen!Lighting
The sun was covered for the most of the time, so I had to make do with whatever resonant light was available.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D90, with the 18-105 kit lens.Inspiration
I had long desired to shoot a macro image, however without the right lens, it got very difficult. As soon as I found a relatively large specimen of a Dragonfly, I knew I had to make the most of it. After chasing it around for a while, it finally settled on a low branch. The color of the plant suited the color of the fly while the distant background meant I could obtain a fine Bokeh. I wasted no time framing the shot and finally managed to capture a picture I could be happy with.Editing
Not a lot of post-processing was required for the image. I mildly adjusted the shadows and increased the sharpness a little with an adjustment mask.In my camera bag
A must have is the Nikon 35mm prime lens. It offers beautiful sharp pictures. Another important equipment I recently acquired are a set of Macro filters. Using them requires manual focusing, but it is worth the price.Feedback
Insects move and flutter about incessantly. Essentially one should have a lot of patience with them. I discourage using adhesives and other means to hinder the insect's movements. One should set about early in the morning as that is when they are most active.
