Re: request for critique: a unique and creative approach to flower portrait...Some considerations: when the flower becomes a lesser part of the composition, it might be better to eliminate any distractions...elimination of the bud and leaf (you can hold your hand to block and see the difference) is one step. Though the use of DOF is excellent, the background orange fights with the flower. A darker background, either by time of day or post-production, would make the flower pop.

I like this photo because it has nice warm colors, great bokeh and I like that you have used the rule of thirds. I also agree with Dacemac, by eliminating the bud and leaf your eye doesn't go right to those first. I disagree with the darker background, I like it. Great shot!
