It is a fixed 400mm lens with a 1.4 extender, so 560mm

Behind The Lens

Location

Lion Sands Reserve, Sabi Sands, South Africa

Time

The shot was taken early to mid morning

Lighting

The buffalo was in the shade on a very bright day

Equipment

Canon 1Ds, Canon 100-400L at 400mm

Inspiration

African buffaloes always look mean ! I was snapping away and got lucky when the oxpecker landed for a photobomb opportunity

Editing

I shoot in raw, so basic sharpening and adjustment of levels and contrast

In my camera bag

This was taken long ago. Currently I have Canon 1D IV, Canon 1Dx and Canon 7DII along with 400 DO with 1.4x, 100-400L II, 70-200L III and other L lenses

Feedback

Even ordinary situations of shooting wildlife can turn into something interesting with the arrival of the unexpected.
