Location
This photo was taken at a cool old fire house I was working at in Lower Manhattan (NYC). This is a shot looking down a pole hole. This is what you see before you slide down to put your gear on and race out the door to a fire.Time
Time of day, well couldn't even tell you maybe at night or evening, was working a 24hr tour and the day was a blur of calls. I was just lucky to have a few moments to snap this picture.Lighting
The lighting was from the main floor of the firehouse I wanted a more gritty old New York look.Equipment
Nikon D600, 35 f2 handheld no flashInspiration
Wanted a classic "NYC" photo but of a unique NY subject.Editing
I used lightroom to do minor tweaks and to convert in black in white. I normally shoot with the camera recording RAW and jpeg with monochrome selected. This gives me an idea what the images will look like in B/W. The raw gives me the ability to have "my cake and eat it too," the jpeg stays B/W but the RAW is exactly what the camera say.In my camera bag
I carry my D600, 4 primes (8mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm). I also sometimes carry a flash and radio triggers.Feedback
Look at places you see everyday and find something interesting in it. I might be something boring and un-photographic to you but to others it might be amazing. Just take the shot and when the images are up you might just be surprised with what you got.
