Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my home studio.

Time

This photograph was taken by me immediately after my dinner at around 8:30 p.m. Photography to me is like dessert after dinner.

Lighting

Off camera flash from the top of the cards was used. The flash was used at 1/64 power and the light was highly diffused using my home made diffuser.

Equipment

This was shot using Olympus E-620 camera, Zuiko 35 mm Macro lens. Yongnou 560 Flash was used to light the subject.

Inspiration

I had already shot words such as AK47 using playing cards. I thought that I can do much better if I use some post processing. So this shot was born.

Editing

Some post processing is required in most macro images. I changed Q to O and A to V in Photoshop. Converted the image to black and white using Nik Silver Efex Pro.

In my camera bag

I shoot films these days. I carry a Cosina CT-1 Film Camera alongwith Pentax 50mm F2.0 primary lens. Lots of Kodak T-Max and Tri-X. As a backup I use Nikon D610 full frame body with 50mm 1.8G lens.

Feedback

When you shoot a white surface, keep in mind that you need to slightly overexpose the subject otherwise the whites will start appearing as gray. In a shallow DoF image, positioning of subject plays a vital role.
