We had visited NYC twice before, but have never experienced the view of downtown Manhattan from Brooklyn before! It was late, we had consumed a few beers, but I had to capture a few images as momentos. I had no tripod with me, so this image was done by balancing the camera on the railing post and standing still!

I took this photo on a flying visit to Brooklyn to meet up with an old school friend I hadn't seen for 20 years! After catching up for a couple of drinks my fiancé and I had a wander round Dumbo marvelling at the view. I had never seen Manhattan from this area!Time
The photo was taken around midnight! My fiancé and I spent around an hour wandering around and never seen another soul. It felt like Brookly park belonged to us for that hour at least ha!Lighting
There was a lot of contrasting light for the scene, I had to reduce some of the highlights in post processing as well as bring out some of the detail in the darker areas of the railings etc.Equipment
I love Sony Alpha cameras and currently use the Alpha a77. I love all the added extras, and I'm a big fan of the in camera HDR. As we had been visiting a friend I didn't have my tripod, but found a post to balance the camera on to avoid camera shake!Inspiration
The views all around were amazing, and it was really difficult to decide what to frame! I took shots from a lot of different angles. This was my favourite of the bunch!Editing
I'm not an expert in post processing. It's really an area I need to do some work on! Apart from sorting out some of the highlight and shadows, I adjusted the contrast and boosted the saturation slightly. All done in Lightroom. In my camera bag
I love travel photography but try to travel light. Apart from my main camera I also carry the compact Sony RX100. Lens wise I mostly stick with the 16-50mm kit lens for my alpha a77. I also have an 18-270 Tamron travel lens which I never leave home without!Feedback
My main advice would be just to relax and enjoy yourself. Try and enjoy the moment, getting a great photo is awesome, but also step away from the camera and spend some time looking around you and taking things in. Take your time working out a good composition and assuming you can keep the camera still enough ensure you are using the correct apature for your lenses sweet spot!
