Location
This photo was taken a few miles from my home in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The view is looking southeast over the Tahquamenon Bay which is part of Whitefish Bay on the east end of Lake Superior. The morning I took this the temperature was 7 deg.(F)!Time
I left the house to "scout" well before sunrise to check out a few potential spots. I got set up about one hour before sunrise and started shooting bracketed sets from that point until about one hour after sunrise.Lighting
No lighting was used. However, I bracket all my landscape shots in order to have different exposures of the same photo and also for HDR processing. Bracketed at (-2, 0, +2)Equipment
This photo was taken with a Canon 7D, using a Tamron SP 24-70 F/2.8 Di, a MeFOTO A1350 tripod and a Shoot shutter release. Shot in aperture priority, f16, ISO 100, at 24mm. (38.4mm in 35mm)Inspiration
My inspiration is just being able to witness a beautiful sunrise, sunset, or any other breathtaking scene in nature. I will forever be in awe of the magnificent beauty of our little blue planet.Editing
This shot was processed in Photomatix Pro 5.0.4 for HDR and then finished in Lightroom. In my camera bag
My go-to lenses are the Tamron SP 24-70 f/2.8 Di and Tamron SP 70-200 f2.8 Di. I also use a Sigma 35mm f1.4 DG, and a Canon EF 400mm L f5.6.Feedback
If you want to capture landscapes you need to be OUT THERE! I can't count the number of times I have gone out thinking there was no chance of getting a good shot and I end up with some really nice photos. If I would have stayed home I never would have gotten to see the things I saw let alone get any photos. Most importantly...enjoy the beauty that surrounds you. Take the time to drink in your surroundings and savor the moment.
