What a nice silky water effect using the slow shutter. And beautifully composed.

Location
This photo features one of the waterfalls, near the rock quarry up Providence Canyon near Providence Utah. A group of us were headed up the mountain when I noticed the fall. The natural lighting was perfect to bring out the green all around.Time
It was late afternoon, by the time we reached the rock quarry. The sun was still up, but nearing the horizon. The waterfall is nestled in the mountain side, blocking direct sunlight.Lighting
The setting summer sun provided enough light to bring out the natural colors surrounding the waterfall, but not too much to prohibit the long exposure.Equipment
I was shooting a Nikon D7000 with an Nikkor DX 18-105mm lens and an Opteka tripod. I set the aperture to f/22 and adjusted the shutter speed to slightly over expose the photo.Inspiration
I am always in search of great photo opportunities. When I was told about the waterfall, I couldn't pass up the opportunity.Editing
Yes, during post-processing I darkened the shadows and increased the brightness, contrast, and vibrancy of the photo. In my camera bag
In my bag I have a Nikon D7000, a Nikkor DX 18-105mm lens, a Nikkor DX 55-300mm lens, and an Opteka tripodFeedback
Overcast or cloudy sky and early morning or late afternoon generally offer the best natural light to work with. For waterfalls or running water shots, close your aperture and keep your shutter open longer to give the water a silky smooth effect. I typically slightly over expose the picture to make the lights lighter and the picture brighter.
