Children's eyes series. This is my little blue-eyed daugther. Simple shot with the very sharp Sigma 50 Art lens. Hand held. No stabilizer. Image cropped a bit. One of my favorite themes in photography is try to capture the light of the children's eyes. In any portrait, everything is in the eyes. And children have the most pure, genuine and lighting eyes. (Be child, my friend...).

............................................................................................................

'In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. But the earth was formless and empty. Then God said: Let there be light; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good'. (The Bible, Genesis 1, 1).
......................................................................................................

It is the light what gives consistency and form to the matter. The atoms are practically 100% empty space. The volume occupied by the nucleus plus the volume occupied by the electrons is only 0,0000000000001% (yes, thirteen decimals) of the total volume of any atom. But the photons, as bosons responsible of the electromagnetic interaction, connect internally and continuously the electrons with the nucleus, and also the atoms with other atoms in order to form molecules. The photons act as if they were the cement of the matter. Without light in its interior, there would not be 'solid' atoms and molecules. The matter, the whole universe would be an extremely loose soup of bosons and hadrons with c.0% density. That is, without light, the matter, the earth would be 'formless and empty', as surprisingly states the first sentence of the Bible. Light is not an outside phenomenon: photons are an essential 'internal' component of the matter. Without them it would not be possible any form. Neither the beauty, nor the photography. The matter is literally 'filled' with light. Also at night. To capture it, is all.

Just wondering what your daughter was looking at. I see something big in the reflection of her eyes. By far this is my favorite photo. Nice job. Just stunning all the way around.

Behind The Lens

Location

This is a photo of my little blue eyed daughter. The shot was taken in our garden, in Madrid, Spain. She did not know what a camera was, so her pure and genuine expression reflects also a bit of curiosity and surprise. This photo is part of my children's eyes series, an exercise that you can find in my ViewBug gallery.

Time

The photo was taken the 15th of June of 2014, at 17.11.34 h., Central Europe Time.

Lighting

No flash. No artificial lighting. Illumination is just the sun's light. That day there was a bright blue sky, with some clouds.

Equipment

My camera is a Canon 70 D. The lens used was the very, very sharp Sigma 50 Art lens (a highly recommended lens!), which has not stabilizer. The photo was taken hand held. The image is cropped a bit.

Inspiration

'In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. But the earth was formless and empty. Then God said: Let there be light; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good'. (The Bible, Genesis 1, 1) .................................................................................................................................................................................................. (Be child, my friend...)

Editing

The RAW converter that I used was Capture One 8. Colors of the shot are natural, not photoshopped. However, the eyes have been sharppened and their color was saturated. I used a mask for that purpose. The RAW file was cropped with Capture one, in order to center the image.

In my camera bag

Canon EOS 70D is my only camera. And my only lenses are: Sigma 1.8 18-35 Art Lens; Sigma 1.4 50 Art Lens; and Canon 70-300 L IS USM

Feedback

With kids a good advise is to shot several photos, preferibly using the live-view touching screen as focussing method, in order to obtain natural expressions.
