This is a great image to me. The clocks in the background, and single chess piece add to the look of contemplation on the subjects face. I am also a chess player, so I like it for the image of the king alone LOL.

Behind The Lens

Location

Well, actually, this is a composite image made up of at least 5 or 6 photos put together in Photoshop, but they were all taken in the City of Guilin. My own portrait was taken in studio, the rest, out and about, the walls were taken in a hotel, the clocks were in a friend's place and the lamp is from my own office. The Chess piece was also in a hotel and it was truly large.

Time

Different times of day, some in the morning, some in the evening.

Lighting

Well, my own portrait was shot using in studio strobes, the rest were either natural light or available light.

Equipment

Camera: Canon EOS 5D mark III Camera: Canon EOS 60D Lens: Canon 70 - 200 mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens: Canon 24 - 105 mm f/4L IS USM Strobe: JinBei Digital Pioneer 300 Tripod and head: Really Right Stuff Filter: Kase polariser 77mm

Inspiration

Waiting For Godot, the play by Samuel Beckett.

Editing

It goes without saying, a composite image necessarily needs post-processing and Photoshop touches. I needed to cut myself out from the surroundings, in addition to that, i had to mask out the Chess King and match the lamp on the wall to look right and convincing. The light rays shining in from the top corner is also super added onto the image in Photoshop.

In my camera bag

At least my EOS 5D Mark III camera (at times i will also carry my EOS 60D, too), an additional lens, an ND filter, extra batteries, extra memory cards, care and maintenance tools, a torch, plastic bag in case of heavy rain.
