I was an earlybird as well as this Heron,went to shoot Osprey and this guy was fishing,lighting was very low ,so used bulb mode for the shot

Location

this photo was taken at Higgins point ' on lake Coeur d'Alene, where Eagles feast annually' on spawning Kokanee...

Time

This was a lot of fun' I remember checking the weather forecast the night before, cloudy.. it started partially clearing around noon' so grabbed gear and headed out on the 30 mile jaunt, lighting was looking good from time to time' it was only a matter of patience for a subject to arrive'as the bird count was down this season... Perseverance on this cold day payed off just before the sun went behind the hill' this photo was taken 12/25/14 around 3:30pm

Lighting

Yes'I wanted the under side of bird lit ' had scouted out a small bay area' where I positioned myself on the East side of bay under some tree's the bird's like to hang out in' hoping to have them flying toward me into the soon to be setting sun, this did turn out to work fairly well!

Equipment

This Canon shooter was using a 40D with a 100-400 4.5 cable release' Gitzo G 1338 with a Gimble'and Camo clothing

Inspiration

Many things really! Passion's kind of sum's it up' the love of outdoor's,hiking,wildlife' did I mention Bald Eagles and Photography! A great desire to improve in the latter passion.... ((0 ; (the Light!)

Editing

Yes, highlights down a touch, shadows up a bit and adjust whites and blacks, small bit of vignetting.

In my camera bag

couple bodies one with a long lens and one with a wide, cable release,1.4x extender, ND filters, polarizer filter, lens cleaner and plenty of cloth's, extra batteries,extra cf cards, Tripod...

Feedback

scout out a spot' keeping in mind wheres the light source going to be' tripod a must, a Gimble head is a big help shooting birds' and be patient! I've spent up to 3 to 4 hours in the same spot! ((0 ; Happy Shooting!!
