This has got a nice D O F. If I may make a suggestion Every photo tell a story and that story has a beginning and an end. I would suggest that you reverse this image so it starts on the left. I say this because you've got negative space first then the story. Unless you're in a middle eastern country we read from left to right. by changing the image the child is leading us from left to right. it's a good effort. thanks for sharing.

so beautiful and i agree with the comment below I am immediately engaged as the viewer but lady in the background keeps taking my view off the intended image if you could crop the left side slightly and darken down the white it would move this image into the blow my mind image

Location
The photo was taken in Arusha, Tanzania in East Africa. During my visit to a local orphanage, I photographed many of the children who were eager to be be models and were very intrigued with my camera, as they had never seen one before.Time
This photo was taken in the summer of 2014 the late afternoon at about 5 o'clock. I had waited all day until the light was just right. I often try to shoot in the early morning or evening as the light will not not be as harsh as during the day.Lighting
At about 5 o'clock, the sun was still overhead, but not too bright. Soft light was being cast upon the child's face and I did not even have to use a flash, reflector, or diffuser. The natural beauty of the light at such an interesting angle inspired to take this picture.Equipment
I used only my Nikon D600 along with my Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 macro lens to take this photo. There was no need for a tripod or flash because the light was very convenient and beautiful.Inspiration
Many things inspired me to take this photo. For me, one important part of this picture was the blissful expression on the child's face and how it showed light in a world of darkness and poverty. In addition, the light in the surrounding environment was too soft and perfect not to take the photo.Editing
While I usually do more editing to my photos, this picture did not require as much processing. I kept the eyes darker on purpose as they show wisdom, and I lightened some of the shadows on his face.In my camera bag
I usually carry a 20-35mm Tokina f/2.8 and my Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 in bag, but I am never seen without my Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VC mounted on my Nikon D600 because of its versatility, optical performance, and effective Vibration Control.Feedback
The most important part about this photo, as well as any other photo that you want to take, is the lighting. If the lighting is too harsh, you will not have a pleasant image. Similarly, exposure must be very even. One tip for this is to look at your camera's histogram after taking an image to see if you have any hotspots are dark, black shadows, and to readjust the settings accordingly. Finally, do not be afraid to ask your model to pose how you want, as a helpful subject will payoff big time when evaluating the quality of your photograph later.
