Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in Upper Street, Islington, London.

Time

This was taken in the afternoon, around 2pm. It was back in December 2014, and London was cloudy as usual.

Lighting

The photo was edited afterwards and so I got to change and adjust brightness, saturation, exposure, contrast, etc.

Equipment

This photo was actually taken with a mobile phone, a Samsung S3 mini at the time. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I was walking down the street with a friend and suddenly saw this bus parked at the side of the road. I had never seen a bus like this before and thought it was quite an original idea. I thought it created an atmosphere of romanticism of a different era almost, so I wanted to capture the moment. I have seen plenty of these buses around London since!

Editing

I used an app called Photo Editor Pro. I enhanced the photo a couple of times, adjusted brightness, saturation, exposure, contrast, and shadows. I then added the vignette feature and a radial focus on the bus. In the end I used the "splash" option of the app to turn it in black and white and keep only the bus in its original red colour.

In my camera bag

I usually take photos with my mobile phone and then process them with apps like Photo Editor Pro or Snapseed. At times I take with me my bridge camera, a Fujifilm FinePix S4800. I am still an amateur and a beginner and haven't got much equipment yet.

Feedback

I would say go with your gut and photograph things that evoke your emotions! Also, there are a lot of great editing apps nowadays; post-processing can be very fun, and allows for experimentation, learning, and creativity.
