Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was shot in my front yard. I had planted some wildflower seeds a few months earlier and this guy popped up. I had been chasing these carpenter bees for an hour or so. They were mostly interested in the Rose of Sharron but this bee tried something a little different.

Time

This was around 7pm.

Lighting

Not really, It was close to the sun setting.

Equipment

I shot this with my first DSLR. It was a Nikon D3000 with the 55-200 kit lens. I have since upgraded substantially but looking back at it now, it is definitely possible to shoot a great image with any camera.

Inspiration

I was actually just out practicing with my new camera. I was trying to understand depth of field better.

Editing

Not that I can remember.

In my camera bag

Now days I have a Nikon D7100 with a Sigma 50-150 F2.8 and a Nikon D7000 with a Nikon 35mm prime lens. I keep a cheap speedlight with me also.

Feedback

Just get out there and practice. Patience helps as well as putting a good distance between you, your subject, and the background.
