Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photograph at a friend's house in Fort Lauderdale during Springtime.Time
It was approximately 10 am and I deliberately chose this time because the sun wasn't as intense as it would be later in the day. I remembered that I wanted strong lighting without being overwhelmed. The pool situated nearby was also a benefit as I was benefitting the reflection from the water that provided me the horizontal lighting that I was also looking for that day.Lighting
This shot was taken partially under a canopy at poolside. I wanted to get strong lighting from the sides, more from the poolside. I placed a scrim at the top to allow diffused lighting. I place the strawberries on a table with a white tablecloth to get any secondary and tertiary bounce lighting coming from the scrim.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 7D, 85mm portrait lens, a polarizer filter, hand held then tripod, ISO 100, Standard Setting.Inspiration
A friend of mine wanted to make a cookbook and needed photos. I gladly obliged as a favor to her. When I arrived, I was amazed from the numerous dishes she had already created - at 9 am. Taking a quick glance, the strawberries immediately caught me attention. Without thinking, I picked them up and told her that it will be my first shoot. as I began taking the shots, I began to notice in the viewfinder the details generated from the shadows. I placed the camera on the tripod and taking numerous shots at different EV's and shutter speeds. After numerous shots from this angle, what you see is the best shot from numerous attempts.Editing
I increased the saturation to bring out the beautiful color from the strawberries, Unsharp Masking to provide clarity and bumped up the brightness to give it some "Pop!"In my camera bag
A Canon 60D and 7D, a tripod, 70-200mm Canon telephoto lens, a Sony Alpha 6000 mostly for traveling, a 50mm Prime Lens, a 85mm Prime Lens, Canon 450X Flash and various slave flashes.Feedback
Never be afraid to take too many shots of the same thing. I've been told just the opposite because they say that after looking at them for a while, they all look the same. For that reason, I would stop what I'm doing and return a few days later. You'll be amazed what you can see with a fresh pairs of eyes and perspective.
