Location
Photo was taken at home (most convenient from the photographic point of view, not quite so from the point of being host to so many puppies!). But it was worth it, every second.Time
November 18th, 2013, around 1300 hours.Lighting
Lighting was entirely natural, pure daylight - the way I like it the most. Practicaly noon, it was more than sufficient for ISO160, f2.8 @ 1/200 sec.Equipment
Camera was a small p&s Canon D10, mainly because it is always at hand, so all it took was pulling it out of the pocket. And the photo has been shot out of hand, with no added tricks or treats.Inspiration
Having puppies around is motivation enough, believe me there is no need for any stronger inspiration! As they grow up they start to move around, and you need to open extra eyes on all your sides, especially the feet! Only times when the merry bunch has any resemblance of order is the feeding time and the sleeping time. The rest of the day is sheer, chaotic fun and games! Luckily, as regards those times, they're well synchronised and do it all together.Editing
I may have reduced the contrast a tad, so as to lighten the overall scene, and did a crop to remove the unnecessary parts of the surroundings. Nothing else, as far as I recall.In my camera bag
I use a photo jacket or any other similar clothing containing many pockets. Since my equipment usually consists of two cameras, one will always be an underwater point & shoot model, the other one usually a bridge camera (prosumer, all-in-one), the rest will be the spare batteries for both, some filters (NDs and a polarizer...) and I take along a clamp with ballhead instead of tripod. Beside this I'll usually carry a length of thin rope, a pocket knife, and some lighter or matches, to use when the need arises to improvise something - and I prefer improvising to carrying a lot of weight. Either you like doggies and then have the pleasure and responsibilities that go with it, or you know someone that has them... If you have such people near you, keep tabs on when their dog is going to have puppies, and arrange to be there with your camera. Absolutely make sure that the Paw and Maw Dog know you well, so they're are not alarmed by your presence. Else you might swiftly happen to need new trousers and mebbe a coupla stitches, should you come too near to the pups (Note: Paw and Maw decide what's too near). Since Viva was our doggie from the day of her birth, we had no such worries at all, and were allowed to handle the puppies from minute zero on. But to repeat... we enjoyed every second of it!
