Location
the picture was taken in Richmond park...Time
the shot was taken around 3pm on the 30/11/14 if I remember rightLighting
late November you get a really nice late afternoon sun'... its also very low in the sky.Equipment
camera was the bottom end Nikon D3200 400iso 1/800 with a 300mm 2.8 manual focus Nikon lens plus a tc300 converter mounted on a tripod, I was sitting on the ground with the tripod at its lowest setting.Inspiration
I had taken a few shots of the stags rutting earlier and things had settled down, so I was looking for a different type of shot when I spotted this stag and a few deer sitting on a brow of a small hill so I got down as low has I could to get the trees way off in the background as a back drop, I took a number of shots and was very pleased with them all...Editing
I set the camera to cloudy even though it was sunny because it gives a nice warm glow to the picture other than that its sharpened a little and cropped as I'm not that good on the post processing side of digital photography. In my camera bag
in the bag I have D5100, D3200, 18-55mm standard zoom 70-300mm vr 3.5 5.6 and a 105mm 2.8 manual Nikon lens plus a 300mm 2.8 Nikon manual focus and tc300, I did have a very good sigma 70-200 2.8 zoom but I lost it in Richmond parkFeedback
I would say wear some old clothes and a good pair of knee pads and get down low for some really good shots of the Deer, if you take a walk around the park when photographer's are there nearly all of them stand to get there shots. Try to keep the back ground out of focus so all you have to look at is your subject. You don't need a very long lens in Richmond park a 200mm will get good results but do remember the deer are wild and can be very dangerous
