Location
I took this photo at a Welsh ruin called Haroldston House near where I live in West Wales. It was once one of the most important gentry houses in Pembrokeshire and was built by the Harold family in the 13th century. The ruins are said to be the birthplace of Sir John Perrot (of Carew castle), the illegitimate son of Henry VIII. The site is a complex of ruined late medieval and Tudor buildings and formal garden areas. The dominant building element is an L-shaped ruinous tower.Time
Late evening, sunset.Lighting
Natural light from the setting sun.Equipment
This was a handheld shot taken with a Pentax K-m with the standard Pentax 18-50mm lens.Inspiration
I was at a very low point in life when I took this photo. I find the ruins here very spiritual and I was looking for some answers as all other avenues had failed. The site is within walking distance from where I live, so I wandered down almost on a pilgrimage. My life changed very much for the better after that evening as everything began to slot into place.Editing
This is 3-step bracketed shot which was put together in Photomatix and then tweaked with Paint Shop Pro.In my camera bag
In my bag I tend to have a torch, a travel tripod, light painting gear (such as LED lights, EL-wire, a kitchen whisk, wire-wool and a gas mask), a Sigma 70-300mm lens, a 18-50mm Pentax lens, a Tamron 18-200mm lens, cleaning cloth, extra batteries and memory cards and a waterproof jacket.Feedback
Just go with the flow. I think the best shots come when you are not trying to capture something specific. This photos is full of meaning to me because of the situation I was in. I wasn't trying to capture anything specific, but I managed to capture the feeling of being answered and something was looking out for me.
